From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
Today marks the beginning of a special week for Christians all across the globe.
It’s called the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
Special services will be held for the next eight days, starting with today.
Are you someone who is in the habit of praying?
The apostle Paul exhorted the Colossian church in Colossians 4:2 to make prayer a priority.
Here is what he said: “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
Starting our prayers with thanksgiving is always a great way to put things in perspective.
It sets the tone that God is the one we trust to meet our needs and we should acknowledge that.
I also like what it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Pray without ceasing.”
In other words, we should always be in an attitude of prayer throughout our busy days.
I take this quite seriously and make every opportunity to pray.
One way that I do this is in the early morning while I am out for a run on the roads of our community.
As I pass by peoples’ homes whom I know I am prompted to pray for those inside.
I also pray for the pastors of our community as I run past their churches, or the police, fire department, teachers and pupils.
The list goes on and on.
When I visit someone in the hospital I always read them a Scripture and offer prayer.
In all of my 39 years of being a pastor I have only had one person refuse me when I asked if I could pray for them.
People appreciate knowing that someone is praying for them.
It gives them hope and it also reminds them that others are thinking of them.
Is there someone you know who could use some prayer?
Why not give them a call this week and tell them they can count on you.
