Snowfall warning issued for southwestern Ontario

While the extreme cold warning has ended in Chatham-Kent, a snowfall warning has taken its place.

Environment Canada has issued a yellow snowfall warning for parts of southwestern Ontario, with snow expected to begin Sunday morning and continue through Sunday night.

The warning was issued at 12:15 p.m. EST Saturday and carries a moderate impact level with high forecast confidence.

Snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres are expected, with reduced visibility at times due to heavy snow and local blowing snow. Snow will develop over southwestern Ontario Sunday morning and is expected to reach the southern Kawartha Lakes to Peterborough by around noon. Conditions are forecast to gradually improve from west to east Sunday night as the snow tapers to periods of light snow or flurries.

Easterly winds gusting between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour may contribute to blowing snow, particularly in exposed areas.

Environment Canada says travel is likely to be challenging, with roads and walkways becoming difficult to navigate as snow accumulates.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel and be prepared for changing conditions.

The agency encourages the public to continue monitoring alerts and forecasts for updates.

Reports of severe weather can be sent to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or shared on X using the hashtag #ONStorm.
