The UCC Musical Theatre Company is bringing a classic Disney story to the stage this spring with its production of The Little Mermaid, performed by students of Ursuline College Chatham.
The show will run from April 29 to May 2, with performances beginning at 7 p.m. each evening in the UCC Theatre at 85 Grand Ave. in Chatham. The production is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s well-known tale and follows a story of love, courage and self-discovery set in a magical underwater world.
The cast features Leah Jackson as Ariel, Alex Monette as Prince Eric and Francesca Foex as Ursula, alongside a large ensemble of UCC student performers. The production is supported by live music from the UCC Orchestra and includes music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a book by Doug Wright. Audience favourites such as “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World” are part of the score.
UCC officials say the production highlights the creativity, dedication and talent of students involved both on stage and behind the scenes, while celebrating the importance of storytelling, collaboration and the performing arts.
