Wallaceburg dog attack conviction highlights animal control enforcement

A Wallaceburg man has been convicted in connection with a dog attack, as Chatham-Kent animal control officials report hundreds of animal-related complaints each year across the municipality.

On Jan. 16, 2026, a 60-year-old Wallaceburg resident was convicted in a Chatham-Kent courtroom of multiple offences under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act. The charges stem from a May 2025 incident in which the man’s dog was loose and attacked another dog during a community yard sale. PAWR animal control officers investigated the incident and executed a search warrant at the man’s residence. Following a three-day trial, the man was convicted and fined $1,000.

In a separate case, a 44-year-old Thamesville woman was convicted on Feb. 3, 2026, under Chatham-Kent’s animal bylaw after an incident in which her two dogs attacked a delivery driver. PAWR animal control officers said the incident marked the third time the woman’s dogs had been involved in an attack on a delivery driver. After an investigation and court proceedings, she was convicted and fined $400.

PAWR animal control says it investigates approximately 400 animal-related complaints each year in Chatham-Kent, with about 100 involving dog bites. Officers say they remain committed to protecting both public and animal safety.
