Search warrant on Walpole Island results in drug and weapons charges

OPP officials allege: An individual is facing multiple charges following the execution of a search warrant on Walpole Island First Nation as part of an ongoing drug investigation.

Ontario Provincial Police say that on Jan. 30, 2026, members of the Lambton County OPP Community Street Crime Unit, along with Essex CSCU, executed a search warrant at a residence on Tecumseh Road with assistance from the West Region OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Lambton County OPP uniform officers and the Walpole Island Police Service.

Police say the warrant was obtained as part of a drug investigation that began earlier in January. During the search, officers seized a quantity of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, several firearms, Canadian currency and other items related to the investigation. The estimated value of the items seized is approximately $19,400.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old individual from Walpole Island First Nation was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The accused faces charges related to possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of firearms or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, unauthorized possession of firearms, possession of prohibited devices or ammunition and careless storage of firearms or ammunition.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody. They are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on Feb. 4, 2026.
