Tools worth $10,000 recovered after break-in at children’s treatment centre construction site

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Chatham-Kent police say two people are facing charges after tools valued at about $10,000 were stolen from the construction site of the new Children’s Treatment Centre on McNaughton Avenue West.

Police responded Feb. 10, 2026, to a report of a break and enter at the site. Investigators determined that between Feb. 6 at 4:30 p.m. and Feb. 9 at 7 a.m., two unknown suspects entered the property and stole tools.

On Feb. 13, members of the intelligence unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Sandys Street in Chatham. Police say all but one of the reported stolen tools were recovered.

A 35-year-old man from Chatham is charged with break and enter to commit an indictable offence and possession of stolen property over $5,000. A 42-year-old woman from Chatham is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

The woman was released with a future court date of March 19, 2026. The man was transported to the South West Detention Centre and remained in custody pending a video court appearance on Feb. 17, 2026.
