Chatham-Kent invests $375,000 in local events and projects through Together CK grants

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is investing $375,000 into communities across the region through its 2026 Together CK Grant program, supporting dozens of local events and community-driven initiatives.

A total of 66 projects will receive funding this year, including significant events, community events and community projects aimed at strengthening connections, culture and local infrastructure.

Funded initiatives span communities throughout the municipality, including Wallaceburg, Dresden, Blenheim, Chatham, Ridgetown, Tilbury, Wheatley, Bothwell, Thamesville, Erieau, Merlin, Buxton, North Buxton, Duart and Shrewsbury.

Among the major events receiving support are Chatham-Kent Crowfest, the Dresden Night Market, RetroFest in downtown Chatham, the Thamesville Threshing Festival and the Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing.

Community events and projects funded through the program reflect a wide range of local priorities, including cultural celebrations, youth programming, accessibility improvements, environmental initiatives and upgrades to shared community spaces.

“It’s been a pleasure working with the Together CK Committee for the past several years,” said Fannie Vavoulis, Together CK Chair. “The committee is made up of hard-working volunteers who share the privilege of reviewing every application and celebrating the many worthy events and projects happening across Chatham-Kent. Thank you to all applicants for your dedication to making Chatham-Kent a bright and fun community, and to the Together CK committee for your efforts.”

Mayor Darrin Canniff said the funding highlights the importance of community investment across the municipality.

“The Together CK grant program is about investing in the people and communities that make Chatham-Kent such a vibrant place to live. From major festivals to grassroots community projects, these investments support connection, culture, and economic activity across the entire municipality,” he said.

Dave Taylor, Deputy CAO, said the program aligns with council’s priorities around inclusion and community well-being.

“Together CK supports initiatives that bring people together, celebrate diversity, and strengthen community well-being. This year’s recipients reflect the incredible passion and creativity of residents across Chatham-Kent, and we are proud to support their work,” he said.

Applications for the 2026 program were reviewed by a committee of municipal staff and community representatives using criteria that included alignment with council priorities, community need, diversity and inclusion, and overall impact.

Successful applicants will be contacted with next steps, while those not selected are encouraged to seek feedback for future opportunities.
