Dresden Minor Hockey launches online 50/50 raffle to support local youth hockey

Dresden Minor Hockey Association is seeking community support as it launches an online 50/50 raffle to help offset rising costs of operating youth hockey programs.

Officials say the initiative will support programs such as frozen registration fees, subsidized goalie training, the Jr. King Academy of Excellence, and financial assistance for U15 and older goaltenders, among other initiatives designed to make small-town hockey accessible.

“It’s back! Please support Dresden Minor Hockey as we continue to offer frozen registration fees, subsidized goalie training, The Jr.King Academy of Excellence and financial support for U15 and above goaltenders among many other initiatives to make small town hockey thrive!” the association said.

The fundraising effort comes in response to rising expenses for facility usage, registration, insurance, recruitment, travel, and hospitality, as well as a recent decision by Ontario Hockey leadership to eliminate gate fees at minor hockey events. That change has created a $35,000 annual shortfall for the association.

Dresden Minor Hockey has run similar online 50/50 draws in 2023 and 2024, using proceeds to fund pre-season kids camps open to all registrants. The association says the current raffle will continue to support youth participation while minimizing additional costs for families.
