Chatham-Kent man charged after alleged shoplifting incident

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 43-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after a shoplifting incident on St. Clair Street.

According to the Chatham-Kent Police Service, an officer observed a male suspect leaving a business without paying for merchandise at about 9:55 a.m. on March 6.

Police say the officer detained the suspect and recovered the stolen merchandise, which was returned to the business.

The 43-year-old man from Chatham-Kent was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters and later released with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court June 8, 2026.
