Police board recognizes officers for work on Next Generation 9-1-1 system

The Chatham-Kent Police Service Board has recognized several members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service for their role in implementing the Next Generation 9-1-1 emergency communications system in the municipality.

The members received a Police Board Citation for their leadership, dedication and technical expertise in advancing the NG9-1-1 project, which is part of a nationwide modernization of emergency communications.

The updated system is designed to improve emergency response by introducing enhanced digital capabilities, including text-based communication with dispatchers, improved location accuracy and the ability to receive additional data from callers and connected devices.

Police said the transition required extensive planning, technological upgrades and coordination between multiple agencies and emergency service partners.

Officials said the recipients played a key role in guiding the Chatham-Kent Police Service through the process, ensuring the organization met project timelines and exceeded technical readiness standards while positioning the municipality as a leader among communities preparing for the national rollout.

Chief of Police Kirk Earley praised the team for their efforts.

“Our members have demonstrated remarkable professionalism and commitment throughout this project. NG9-1-1 is a critical step forward in public safety, and their leadership ensures that the people of Chatham-Kent will benefit from faster, more accurate, and more accessible emergency services. This recognition by the Police Service Board is well-earned.”
