From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
Are you someone who is reluctant to ask for help?
Perhaps you feel that you are a nuisance for doing so, or maybe you just think you can manage things on your own without outside intervention.
My wife and I had a very interesting shopping experience back in January at an international grocery store in West Windsor.
We were shopping for the ingredients necessary for hot pot, a traditional Chinese dish where you cook various food items in boiling broth.
Upon entering this specialty market we felt overwhelmed.
We were greeted by narrow aisles filled with many, many people, and nobody who seemed to know English.
The air was filled with the smells of an outdoor Asian market.
Most items were hard to find and had only small English subtitles.
Our daughter had given us a list but many items were unfamiliar to us.
But things changed immediately as soon as we asked for help.
My wife spotted a young Chinese woman, a student from the nearby university, and asked her to help us shop.
We were met with wonderful enthusiasm as she sprang into action, leading us on a quick pursuit of the items on our shopping list.
In a matter of a few minutes, we had everything we needed.
“Enjoy your hot pot!” she said, and then she disappeared to the checkout.
We could have wandered around in a fog trying to figure things out on our own, but instead we asked for help and things went much better.
God wants us to do the same in the matters of this life.
“Ask and it will be given to you” Jesus said in Matthew 7:7.
Help is just a prayer away!
