OPP to increase enforcement during ‘Stay Focused’ campaign in Lambton County

OPP officials allege: Ontario Provincial Police in Lambton County say they will be increasing their presence on local roadways as part of an upcoming traffic safety campaign targeting distracted driving.

The “Stay Focused” campaign will run from March 27 to April 3, 2026, and will include enhanced patrols aimed at drivers engaging in inattentive behaviours such as texting, phone use and other distractions.

Police say inattentive driving continues to be a significant factor in fatal collisions across the West Region. In 2024, the OPP investigated 114 fatal collisions resulting in 125 deaths, with 45 of those deaths linked to inattentive driving. In 2025, inattentive driving caused 22 deaths, while two fatalities have already been reported in 2026.

Under Ontario law, the use of handheld devices and viewing display screens unrelated to driving is prohibited. Penalties can include fines, demerit points, licence suspensions and vehicle impoundment.

Motorists can expect increased enforcement throughout Lambton County during the campaign. Police are urging anyone who observes dangerous driving to contact the OPP or call 911 in an emergency.
