Young women in Chatham-Kent are being invited to take part in the 2026 Queen and Princess of the Furrow programs, celebrating leadership and agriculture in the community.
Organized by the Chatham-Kent Plowmen’s Association, the Queen of the Furrow program is open to participants aged 17 to 23 as of Jan. 1, 2026. The competition includes a speech lasting two to three minutes on an agriculture-related topic, an interview with a panel of judges, and plowing a parcel of land with a coach and equipment provided.
The Princess of the Furrow program is designed for participants aged 11 to 16 as of Jan. 1, 2026. That competition includes a one- to two-minute speech on agriculture and an interview with a panel of judges.
Organizers say those selected will spend the year attending community events, representing the Chatham-Kent Plowmen’s Association, Women in Agriculture, and the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo.
They add the program offers an opportunity for participants to engage with the community and promote the agricultural industry in Chatham-Kent.
