The WDSS Drama Club has plenty to celebrate this spring.
Their original production, The Way Home, earned the title of Outstanding Production at the NTS Drama Festival, securing the cast and crew a well‑deserved spot at Regionals in Hamilton on April 22. It’s an exciting moment for the students, who have poured months of creativity, discipline, and heart into bringing this story to life.
Ahead of their upcoming performances, we spoke with Mrs. Nicki Lane – WDSS Drama Teacher, and Mr. Tyler White – Indigenous Graduation Coach, writer, and director of the play. Both shared how meaningful this project has been for the students and the school community. Lane highlighted the dedication she has seen from the cast, while White reflected on the collaborative spirit that shaped the script and the production as a whole.
Before the troupe heads off to Regionals, the community has a chance to experience the award‑winning show right here at home. The Way Home will be performed for one night only on April 9 in the WDSS cafeteria. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door on a pay‑what‑you‑can basis, with a suggested donation of five dollars. Donations raised will be put towards their trip to regionals in Hamilton.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to support local talent, celebrate the club’s recent success, and enjoy an evening of theatre created by students who are clearly making their mark.
