Bail violation charge laid after Wallaceburg theft and bicycle incident

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 44-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a charge after an alleged theft and bicycle incident in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police say officers responded April 2, 2026, at approximately 7:02 p.m. to a report of theft at a retail store on McNaughton Avenue.

Investigators say the accused was in breach of a probation order prohibiting him from attending the business. Police allege he entered the store, collected merchandise and attempted to leave without paying, but was stopped by loss prevention staff.

After exiting the store, police say the accused stole a customer’s bicycle from a rack outside and fled the area.

Officers located the man a short time later on Wallace Street in possession of the stolen bicycle, which was recovered. The victim declined to pursue charges related to the bicycle theft.

The accused was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a probation order. He was released with conditions and a scheduled court date of April 3, 2026.
