Sarnia driver charged with impaired driving following traffic stop in St. Clair Township

OPP officials allege: A 23-year-old Sarnia resident is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop by police in St. Clair Township.

An officer with the Ontario Provincial Police West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team initiated the stop on Kimball Road at about 3:20 p.m. on April 11 while conducting proactive traffic enforcement.

Police said the investigation resulted in the driver being arrested and charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs, speeding one to 49 kilometres per hour over the posted limit, and failing to surrender an insurance card.

The accused received a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Police said the accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on May 5.

The OPP is reminding the public to report impaired driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints about impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.
