Taylor’s Dance Academy earns top honours at Chatham competition

A competitive dance team from Blenheim is celebrating strong results following a recent regional event in Chatham-Kent.

Taylor’s Dance Academy posted multiple top finishes at the Shine Dance Competition, held March 26 to 29 at the Chatham Capitol Theatre. The team presented 36 routines, earning 11 Diamond scores, 22 Platinum scores and three High Gold scores.

“I am extremely proud of my students. They have put in hard work, dedication, and so much heart into their dances and these results are proof that they have learned so much,” said Taylor Nethery, owner and director of the studio. “More than just the awards they have received, the group has so much fun together. They are learning skills that go beyond dance and will be with them for the rest of their life.”

Among the highlights were several special awards and a judges choice recognition, along with multiple high overall placements across solo, duo and group categories. The team also earned a second overall adult award for its “Battle of the Bands” performance.

“We have dancers of all ages and abilities on our team, including an entire adult troop that received a 2nd Overall Adult award for their Battle of the Bands dance,” said Nethery. “It has been my goal to make dance approachable for everyone and to have a studio that embraces the dreams of all dancers. This is why we attract people from all over to come to Blenheim.”

Nethery also credited the broader team behind the performances.

“I wish to thank everyone on the team, all of the parents and the amazing teachers and coaches who make everything possible. You are all wonderful and are such an inspiration,” she said.

The results add to a successful competition season for the studio, which also recently recorded more than 34 top placements at the Dance Rage Competition and received a Studio Spirit Award.
