Thames Art Gallery issues call for artists for Queer Portraits exhibition

The Thames Art Gallery is inviting artists to submit work for an upcoming community-driven exhibition titled Queer Portraits, set to run Aug. 21–23, 2026.

The showcase will feature artworks that celebrate, reflect or explore connections to Chatham-Kent’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Gallery officials say submitted works must demonstrate “a meaningful connection to the Chatham-Kent community; be created from the perspective of, or in allyship with, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community; and portray a specific person(s) or a defining characteristic of that individual.” A jury will review and select entries based on these criteria.

The call for entry is now open and will close May 29, 2026, at 4 p.m. Artists may submit up to two works through an online form on the gallery’s website. Submission is free and open to artists of all experience levels.

A range of media will be considered, including two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, as well as text-based, video and performance pieces.

Questions about the exhibition can be directed to the gallery by email at ckartgallery@chatham-kent.ca.
