OPP officials allege: Two drivers are facing stunt driving charges after separate traffic stops on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent last weekend, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
The OPP said an officer stopped a passenger vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 401 at about 4 p.m. on May 24. Police allege the vehicle was travelling 159 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.
An 18-year-old Kingsville resident was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving a motor vehicle while performing a stunt by excessive speed and failing to surrender a driver’s licence.
Later that evening, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the same officer stopped a passenger vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401. Police allege the vehicle was travelling 156 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.
A 34-year-old London resident was charged with driving a motor vehicle while performing a stunt by excessive speed.
Police said both vehicles were impounded for 14 days and both drivers received 30-day licence suspensions.
