Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 46-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is facing a break-and-enter charge after allegedly entering a Chatham residence through an unlocked door and helping herself to food inside the home and a vehicle parked in the driveway.
Chatham-Kent police said officers were called to a residence on Birmingham Avenue at about 8:26 a.m. on June 16.
According to police, the woman entered the home through an unlocked back door, went into the kitchen and took food, which she ate inside the residence.
The homeowner located the woman and asked her to leave, police said. Once outside, the woman allegedly entered an unlocked vehicle in the driveway, found additional food inside and took it.
Police said the homeowner again confronted the woman, yelling at her to get out of the vehicle. She complied but remained at the end of the driveway until officers arrived.
The woman was arrested and charged with breaking and entering to commit theft.
She was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters and held for bail.
