Pedestrian airlifted to London hospital after collision on Longwoods Road

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 49-year-old Chatham man was airlifted to a London hospital with life-threatening injuries following a collision involving a pedestrian on Longwoods Road late Thursday night.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to an emergency call at approximately 10:49 p.m. on June 18 regarding the incident.

Investigators determined the Chatham man was walking on Longwoods Road, between Littlejohn Road and Zone Road 7, when he was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by a 54-year-old Thamesville woman.

Police said the pedestrian sustained significant injuries and was transported to Four Counties Health Services in Newbury before being airlifted to London Health Sciences Centre with life-threatening injuries.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured.

Due to the severity of the injuries, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Management Unit were called in to continue the investigation. The roadway remained closed overnight but has since reopened.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Traffic Management Unit at 519-355-1092 or Const. Brandon McKeen by email at brandonmc@chatham-kent.ca.
