Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers golf tournament raises more than $35,000

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers says its third annual charity golf tournament raised more than $35,000 to support local crime prevention efforts.

The event, held Saturday at Maple City Country Club, brought together golfers, sponsors, volunteers and community supporters for a day of fundraising and networking. The tournament was presented by Lally Chevrolet Sales & Service, AVLIS Jewelry, Thames Communications and McLean’s Painting.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and it has been a wonderful success. Thank you to our sponsors and to the people who have come out to play. It is through your generosity and dedication that we are able to help continue to make Chatham-Kent a safer community for everyone,” said Erica McIntosh, coordinator for Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers. “The event has raised over $35,000 and those funds go directly into supporting our anonymous tips program, education initiatives, and community outreach activities such as the Children’s Safety Expo.”

Crime Stoppers said it receives no direct government funding and relies on donations, sponsorships, fundraising events and community partnerships to operate.

“This year we have a focus on three important education topics based on local and national trends. The three topics are Guns, Gangs, and Violence Awareness; Auto Theft Prevention; and Break and Enter Prevention,” said McIntosh. “Of course, we remain active in supporting all activities to reduce crime and work with groups across the municipality to provide timely support.”

The organization said it has received 501 tips so far in 2025. Since its inception, Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers has received 31,035 tips, approved $121,906 in rewards, assisted in the seizure of more than $105 million in drugs, helped recover more than $10.5 million in property and contributed to the recovery of 341 weapons.

Residents can submit anonymous tips by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through the Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers website.
