The Lambton Kent District School Board is recognizing National Indigenous Peoples Day by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples while reaffirming its commitment to Indigenous education and reconciliation.
Observed annually on June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day provides an opportunity for Canadians to recognize Indigenous knowledge and achievements.
The school board said students participate in learning opportunities throughout the year that honour Indigenous perspectives, including Anishinaabemowin and Lenape language instruction, community-led teachings, land-based learning, Orange Shirt Day activities, Treaties Recognition Week and National Indigenous History Month initiatives.
LKDSB also acknowledged its partnerships with Aamjiwnaang First Nation, Delaware Nation at Moraviantown, Kettle and Stony Point First Nation and Walpole Island First Nation, also known as Bkejwanong Territory.
In a statement, the board said National Indigenous Peoples Day serves as both a celebration and a reminder that the work of reconciliation continues year-round.
LKDSB said it remains committed to supporting Indigenous education, uplifting Indigenous voices and fostering learning environments where all students feel valued and connected.
“Miigwech — thank you.”
