Chatham-Kent man charged after alleged break-in at business compound

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 47-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing several charges after police responded to a reported break-in at a business in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service was called to a business on Colborne Street at about 10:33 a.m. on June 28 after receiving a report of a man inside the property’s fenced compound.

Officers arrived several minutes later and entered the secure compound, where they located the suspect.

Police allege the man was carrying a backpack containing electrical wire that had been taken from the property.

He was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters.

The accused has been charged with break and enter to commit theft under $5,000, disguise with intent and failing to comply with probation.

He was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22.
