Ontario to launch new digital fishing and hunting licensing system in 2027

Ontario says anglers and hunters will soon have a new digital licensing system designed to make it easier to purchase and manage fishing and hunting licences and tags.

The province announced Monday it will launch FishHuntON in early 2027, providing approximately 1.5 million anglers and hunters with new digital tools, including a free mobile app. The new platform will operate alongside existing online and in-person services.

“Whether you’re a lifelong angler or casting a line for the very first time, our government is making it easier and more convenient to enjoy all that Ontario’s world-class fishing has to offer,” Natural Resources Minister Mike Harris said.

“Our new FishHuntON platform will make accessing licences and tags easier than ever, so people can spend more time doing what they love and exploring the great outdoors.”

The province said the mobile app will allow users to purchase and renew fishing and hunting products, store digital licences and tags that can be accessed with or without cellular service, submit proof of Ontario hunter accreditation electronically and file hunter reports more easily.

“Our government is delivering more modern services for those across our province,” Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement Minister Stephen Crawford said.

“FishHuntON will streamline access to Outdoors Cards, licences and tags while expanding convenient digital options, making it easier for anglers and hunters to access the services they need.”

The government said existing services, including the sale of Outdoors Cards, licences, tags and big game draw applications, will continue to be available online, through private issuers and at participating ServiceOntario locations.

According to the province, anglers and hunters contribute an estimated $3.37 billion annually to Ontario’s resource-based economy. Fishing and hunting licence sales generated about $65 million in 2024-25, with the revenue supporting fish and wildlife conservation programs, research, enforcement and public education.

The new system will also include a digital compliance tool for conservation officers.

“The OFAH is pleased to see the government take an Ontario-first approach to modernizing the fishing and hunting licensing system. By improving digital service options and maintaining a variety of ways to purchase licences and tags, this new system will provide better overall support. We are pleased to have been involved in this process and will continue to provide input to ensure the needs of Ontario’s anglers and hunters continues to be met,” said Matt DeMille, executive director of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
