Passenger service on the Walpole-Algonac ferry was temporarily suspended on Sunday at the direction of the Canada Border Services Agency, the ferry operator says.
Walpole Algonac Ferry Ltd. said in a statement posted to Facebook on Sunday that the pause was ordered while CBSA officers responded to a detainee-related matter and a medical emergency, which limited the agency’s ability to carry out normal passenger processing.
“As the ferry operator, we do not control customs operations and are required to follow CBSA instructions,” the company said. “Once CBSA advised that normal processing could resume, service was immediately restored.”
Ferry officials said it issued the statement after receiving several questions from the public about the suspension.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during the brief disruption and thank our CBSA partners and emergency responders for their work in managing these situations safely.”
