Chatham-Kent council has approved a motion directing administration to investigate potential locations for additional CCTV cameras across the municipality, following concerns raised by council members and residents.
The motion, brought forward by Councillor Anthony Ceccacci, calls on council to discuss areas of concern for the potential placement of additional CCTV cameras and directs administration to investigate locations identified by council and residents.
Administration has been asked to report back on potential locations where the installation of cameras may provide a significant public benefit, including but not limited to Erieau and Mitchell’s Bay, as well as other areas that experience a large influx of people and continued vandalism.
The motion also directs administration and the Chatham-Kent Police Service to present available options, estimated costs, funding opportunities, and any privacy or operational considerations for council’s review and discussion.
The motion was approved at the August 10 meeting of Chatham-Kent council.
