CMHA Lambton Kent earns top accreditation for fourth consecutive cycle (Listen)

CMHA Lambton Kent has been awarded “Accredited with Exemplary Standing” by Accreditation Canada, the highest level of accreditation, for the fourth consecutive cycle.

The designation follows a three-day on-site survey in September. Accreditation Canada assesses governance, leadership, client and family engagement, quality improvement, client safety, service delivery and organizational performance. Surveyors interview clients, family members, staff, leadership, community partners and volunteers. The organization first achieved exemplary standing in 2014.

“To achieve Exemplary Standing for a fourth consecutive accreditation cycle is a remarkable accomplishment,” said Dr. Claire Prins, chair of the board of directors, “and a testament to the commitment of our staff, volunteers, leadership team, Board of Directors, client and family advisors and community partners in delivering safe, compassionate, person-centred care every day.”

Nicole Polak, manager of quality, client safety and professional practice, said preparation began in mid-2025. “Receiving Exemplary Standing validates the strong culture of continuous improvement that exists across CMHA Lambton Kent and demonstrates our commitment to learning, accountability and excellence,” Polak said.

CEO Melissa Sharpe-Harrigan, who joined in the spring, said the organization is beginning its 2026-2030 strategic plan.

“Achieving Exemplary Standing is a moment of pride for our organization, but it is also a moment of momentum. As we begin implementing our new 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, this recognition affirms that we are building from a position of strength and are well positioned to expand access, deepen community partnerships, advance equity, and continue delivering innovative, high-quality care for the people and communities we serve,” she said.

CMHA Lambton Kent serves more than 8,000 people a year across Lambton and Kent counties.
