The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) issued a flood watch at 11 p.m. on March 31, 2023.
SCRCA officials say approximately 25 mm of rain was received on Friday and an additional 20-30 mm was forecasted overnight.
Rising water levels and the potential for minor flooding and road closures was anticipated, SCRCA officials added.
“An active weather system has brought upwards of 25 mm of rain to the watershed over the past 24 hours,” SCRCA officials say.
“Forecasts (were) calling for an additional 20-30 mm of rain late Friday and into the early hours of Saturday morning with a risk of thunderstorms. Water levels are rising from (Friday’s) precipitation and are anticipated to spill into natural floodplain areas, parks and fields; roads may become impacted. Saturated soils could contribute to ponding, increased runoff and possible increased erosion and seepage issues.”
Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water.
Children and pets should be kept away from the water, SCRCA officials added.
The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
This message will remain in effect until Monday, April 3, 2023 at 12 p.m. unless otherwise updated.
