OPP: Commercial motor vehicle charges, Automated License Plate Recognition program leads to charges

OPP officials allege: On April 14, 2023, at approximately 9:36 p.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) travelling on the westbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent for a Highway Traffic Act offence.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old of Brampton, Ontario was charged with:

– Drive without proper rear light – commercial motor vehicle

– Fail to carry or surrender records of duty status

– Fail to keep record of duty status

Additionally, the commercial vehicle operator, a company from Stoney Creek, Ontario was charged with:

– Fail to require driver to keep record of duty status

– Fail to require proper records of duty status

– Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

OPP officials allege: On April 14, 2023, at approximately 11:13 p.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) travelling on the eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent after observing the driver using a hand-held entertainment device while driving.

As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old of Brampton, Ontario was charged with:

– Drive – Hand-held entertainment device

– Enter inaccurate information in record

– Fail to surrender completed daily inspection report

– Fail to surrender insurance card

Additionally, the commercial vehicle operator, a company from Brampton, Ontario was charged with:

– Fail to monitor driver’s compliance

– Fail to ensure daily inspection report is accurately completed

OPP officials allege: On April 15, 2023, at approximately 1 p.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle on King Street North, Municipality of Chatham-Kent after receiving a notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

As a result of the investigation, a 58-year-old of Thamesville, Ontario was charged with:

– Driving while under suspension

OPP officials allege: On April 16, 2023, at approximately 10:46 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle on the eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent after receiving a notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old of London, Ontario was charged with:

– Driving while under suspension

OPP officials allege: On April 16, 2023, at approximately 11:41 p.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle on Highway 40, Municipality of Chatham-Kent after receiving a notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old of Highgate, Ontario was charged with:

– Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

– Driver fail to surrender license

– Fail to notify change of address
