Multiple charges laid in Chatham after a driveway fire and disturbance

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing multiple charges following a violent disturbance involving a fire and assault at a local residence.

Chatham-Kent police responded to a report of a disturbance around 10:44 p.m. on June 17, 2025, after receiving information about a fire in the driveway of a home. An investigation revealed the man had unlawfully entered the residence, confronted a 36-year-old Chatham woman, and made threatening remarks. He then assaulted two other individuals with a weapon, striking one of them several times.

Police determined the man was bound by a probation order that prohibited him from possessing weapons—conditions he allegedly breached during the incident.

He was arrested in Chatham the following day. Police laid several Criminal Code charges, including breaking and entering with intent, uttering threats to cause death, two counts of assault with a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
