Chatham ER doctor on sidelines for Canada in women’s rugby World Cup final

A familiar face from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance will be on the world stage this weekend when Canada’s women’s rugby team plays for a championship.

Dr. Anthony Dixon, an emergency room physician at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, is serving as team doctor for Canada as the squad faces host England in the Women’s Rugby World Cup final Saturday in London.

The hospital praised Dixon’s journey from local sports medicine to the international spotlight.

“We’re so proud of Dr. Anthony Dixon!” the CKHA said in a statement. “From supporting the Kent Havoc Rugby Club in Chatham-Kent to now serving as team doctor for Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team on the world stage — what an incredible journey. Cheer on Team Canada (and Dr. Dixon!) this Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Rugby World Cup Final — GO CANADA GO!”

Canada advanced to the championship match after defeating New Zealand 34-19 in the semifinal.

Dixon has worked with Rugby Canada for about 15 years, but first became involved with the sport through the Chatham-Kent Havoc Rugby Club.

The final kicks off Saturday at 11 a.m. ET and will air live on TSN1 and TSN4, as well as on TSN.ca and the TSN app.
