Sarnia Police Service officials allege: The Sarnia Police Service says a day-long commercial motor vehicle inspection blitz resulted in several charges last week.
On Sept. 26, officers from the Traffic Services Unit partnered with the Ontario Provincial Police and the Ministry of Transportation to inspect large trucks and commercial vehicles. The purpose of the initiative was to ensure vehicles were mechanically fit, loads were secured, and drivers were properly licensed and insured.
Police said the inspections were also used to educate drivers about designated truck routes in the city and the importance of obeying traffic laws.
As a result of the blitz, nine charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act and the City of Sarnia by-laws.
The service said it remains committed to ensuring large vehicles are safe and that drivers follow designated truck routes. Officers will continue monitoring commercial motor vehicles in the community and will take enforcement action when necessary.
