OPP officials allege: An individual has been charged following an assault on a police officer that prompted a shelter-in-place order on October 4, 2025.
According to the Anishinabek Police Service (APS), the incident began shortly before 9:00 a.m. when an officer attempted a traffic stop on Middle Road. The driver failed to stop and later assaulted the officer with a weapon before fleeing on foot.
The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to assist, and the individual was later located and taken into custody without further incident. The shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly after.
The accused, from Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, has been charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, flight from a peace officer, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
They remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
