Mayor Darrin Canniff says Enbridge will continue to have a strong presence in the community, following a conversation with the company’s CEO.
“Yesterday, I spoke directly with the CEO of Enbridge and I have some positive news to share. During that conversation, he told me — and I quote — ‘Enbridge will always have a significant presence in Chatham-Kent,’” Canniff said in a social media post on Tuesday.
“That commitment is important for our community. Enbridge has been and will continue to be a strong partner and employer right here in Chatham-Kent. There may be changes, but he assured me they will always be present in our community in a significant way, which is great news for our community,” Canniff added.
The mayor emphasized the company’s long-standing ties to the region, noting, “We’re proud of the long history Enbridge has in our community, and I will keep fighting to make sure that legacy continues here for years to come.”
Multiple published reports indicate Enbridge Gas is considering closing or relocating its Chatham office as part of a broader review of its facilities and operations.
The company has stated it regularly assesses its real estate strategy to support its team and evolving operational needs, and that a potential closure is one option being explored.
No final decisions have been made, and no job losses are expected, Enbridge officials have said.
The Sydenham Current has reached out to Enbridge officials for comment but has yet to receive a response.
More details will be provided as they become available.
