Walpole Island fire crews contain marsh blaze, community urged to report suspicious activity

The Walpole Island Fire Department responded to a marsh fire along Dyke Road earlier Monday evening, acting quickly to contain the blaze before it could spread into the Walpole Marsh. Fire officials said the outcome could have been far more serious had crews not been able to stop the fire’s progress.

The department is reminding residents to report any suspicious activity involving individuals lighting fires. Officials said anyone who witnesses such behaviour should contact the Walpole Island Fire Department immediately and also notify the Walpole Island Police Department.

Fire officials noted that public awareness and prompt reporting play a key role in protecting land, wildlife and the broader community. They added that the situation had the potential to escalate significantly and urged residents to remain alert to prevent future incidents.
