Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is marking the public unveiling of a newly commissioned mural installation created by local artist Miranda Andrews for the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre.
Earlier this year, a public call for submissions was issued for a mural commission at the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence clinic at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. After a comprehensive review of several applications, a selection committee, together with the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre, selected Andrews as the commissioned artist. With the artwork now completed, CKHA held the official public unveiling of the installation on Friday, Dec. 19.
The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre, located within the emergency department at the Chatham site, provides specialized care and confidential follow-up support around the clock for individuals of all ages and genders who have experienced sexual assault, domestic violence or human trafficking. Services include medical treatment, emotional support, documentation of medical findings, photographic documentation of injuries, risk assessment, safety planning and referrals to community agencies.
CKHA says the mural installation reflects its ongoing commitment to creating a therapeutic and dignified environment for survivors. The artwork is intended to soften the clinical setting while offering a sense of peace and hope to those receiving care.
“The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre offers critical, compassionate care during a survivor’s darkest time,” said Tara Greenway, Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence team lead at CKHA. “Miranda’s mural is more than just art; it is a piece of healing that transforms our space. It provides a visual reminder of hope, tranquility, and resilience, which is essential for the survivors who come through our doors, offering them comfort and dignity as they begin their journey toward recovery.”
