Update: One person dead following collision at Bluewater Bridge, 402 reopened

Update: On January 7, 2026, shortly after 8 a.m., the Lambton County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a fatal collision in the west bound lanes of Highway 402 at the Bluewater Bridge.

Multiple west-bound lanes at the Bluewater Bridge were closed. The road closure lasted several hours to allow for investigation but has since reopened.

The OPP would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during the road closure.

The investigation remains ongoing and further updates will be provided when available.

Lambton OPP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dash cam footage from the area at the time of the incident to please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).


OPP officials allege: One individual is deceased following a collision at the Bluewater Bridge in Point Edward.

On Jan. 7, 2026, shortly after 8 a.m., members of the Lambton County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, along with Point Edward Fire Department and Lambton Emergency Medical Services, responded to a report of a collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 402 at the Bluewater Bridge.

A 60-year-old individual from London was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Multiple westbound lanes at the Bluewater Bridge remain closed as police continue to investigate. The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours, and significant delays are anticipated for motorists crossing the bridge. Lambton OPP is asking drivers to be patient while the investigation is ongoing.

The collision is being investigated by Lambton OPP with assistance from the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team. The investigation remains ongoing and further updates will be provided when available.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has dash-camera footage from the area at the time of the incident to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
