The Raging Dragons dragon boat team is opening its roster to new members as it prepares for another busy season on the water.
No experience is required, and the team has already begun training indoors, using a pool to refine technique and introduce newcomers to the fundamentals of the stroke.
The team regularly travels for competitions and will remain in Ontario this year.
In 2027, when the Raging Dragons mark their 30th anniversary, they plan to take part in a national event.
Anyone interested in joining can contact the Raging Dragons of Chatham-Kent through their Facebook page or meet the team at Boatworks Social House in Blenheim on Saturday, February 28 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Raging Dragons also host the Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival, operated out of Branch 18 – the Wallaceburg Legion.
This year’s event is scheduled for June 6, 2026, and will feature sprint races, a tug-of-war competition and medals across all divisions.
Early bird pricing is available, and nine teams have already registered.
Organizers hope to expand the junior division as interest grows.
Coach Mike Powell shared details about the team’s plans and upcoming season in an interview:
