A special weather statement has been issued for Chatham-Kent warning of additional rainfall Saturday, with already saturated ground limiting the area’s ability to absorb more water.
Environment Canada says rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 millimetres are expected from Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon.
“A cold front will sweep through the region Saturday, bringing showers and the risk of a thunderstorm,” the statement said.
Portions of the region have received significant rainfall over the past several days, raising the risk of impacts from additional precipitation.
“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Don’t drive through flooded roadways. Avoid low-lying areas,” the statement said.
Residents are advised to consult their local conservation authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for flooding information, and to visit Ontario.ca/floods for updates.
Environment Canada is urging the public to continue monitoring forecasts and alerts. Severe weather reports can be submitted by email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca
or shared on X using the hashtag #ONStorm.
