Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police Service has released the results of its participation in Canada Road Safety Week, a national traffic enforcement campaign aimed at promoting safer driving habits and reducing injuries and fatalities on Canadian roads.
The campaign ran from May 1 to May 18, 2026, and focused on eliminating impaired, distracted and aggressive driving, as well as encouraging seatbelt use.
During the campaign, Chatham-Kent police issued a total of 479 Provincial Offence Notices and laid 10 Criminal Code charges against drivers across the municipality. Officers also conducted 13 R.I.D.E. programs, stopping 1,478 vehicles.
Police said the campaign resulted in three alcohol-impaired driving charges, one drug-impaired driving charge and one alcohol-refusal charge. Officers also issued five seven-day licence suspensions.
Additional Criminal Code charges included one dangerous driving charge and two charges for driving while prohibited.
Police also issued five electronic device offences, 364 speeding offences and 115 other provincial offences during the campaign.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service is reminding motorists to drive responsibly, obey traffic laws and prioritize safety on local roadways.
