Q&A: David Hyatt, Candidate for Councillor, Ward 5 – Wallaceburg

David Hyatt, Candidate for Councillor, Ward 5 – Wallaceburg

“67 years old retired married to Anita Hyatt for 44 years. We have three children 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The first 15 years of my life I was part owner of Hyatt Trucking and Excavating which get a lot of the underground infrastructure throughout Wallaceburg.

We were instrumental in building Highway 40 from sign to Wallaceburg one of my fondest memories with a few friends of mine.

We built Hidden Hills golf course, which was Country View when it was originally built.

I’ve been a general contractor/renovator for the last 30+ years.

I have invested in sports such as the Lakers when they were here and the Red Devils.

I was also instrumental in bringing in what was called Group Work Camp based out of Colorado and in three years had 500 students 18 years old, 20 of us locals raised 100,000 to help out the less fortunate.

I was the president of Wildwood by the Lake, instrumental in bringing in municipal water throughout the park, eliminating weeping system throughout the park and bringing in a new sewer system throughout the park and also instrumental in bringing in a brand new electrical grid throughout my career there.

As the manager of the park for three years, I saved 30% the first year on my budget 40% the next year and 30% my final year doing my due diligence to change how the park was managed.

I believe my lifelong experience would be an asset to Wallaceburg and Chatham Kent.

It would be an honour for me to get elected and work hard.

I would be very transparent at any time of the week you can see me driving through Wallaceburg in my 1915 Model T Ford Roadster.

It’s one of my passions since I got older and I have a love for our Wallaceburg WAMBO all the volunteers that put in the time to make it the biggest event in Wallaceburg.

That’s the history of Wallaceburg, where the people of Wallaceburg come together and create.

I’d love to be one of the counsellors that help move Wallaceburg forward.”

Editor’s Note: The following questions are being sent to each Mayoral, Ward 4 and Ward 5 candidate in the 2026 Chatham-Kent Municipal Election:

– What motivated you to run in the 2026 municipal election, and what do you believe you can bring to Chatham-Kent council that is needed right now?

– What are the biggest issues facing residents in your ward and across Chatham-Kent, and how would you work to address them if elected?

– What would you like voters to know about you personally — including your background, experience, and values — as they decide who to support in this election?

– How can people connect with and learn more about you during your election campaign?

The candidates responses are above.

Watch for more Q&A’s being posted from candidates who choose to participate.
