Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 56-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after police say he attempted to break into a vacant residence in Chatham, causing about $500 in damage.
Chatham-Kent police said officers were called to a property on Richmond Street at about 8:53 a.m. on July 9 after a property manager observed suspicious activity through remote surveillance video.
Police allege the man was seen banging on the door of the empty residence with a large rock. Additional video evidence reportedly showed him attempting to gain entry through the rear of the home by kicking and pushing on a door.
Officers located the suspect and arrested him. He has been charged with attempted break and enter and mischief under $5,000.
The accused was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
