The library has announced a full slate of programs for the fall and winter season, offering something for all ages from storytime to slime-making.
Storytime returns this season with two separate sessions. One run takes place Thursdays from September 24 to October 29 and again from November 12 to December 17, while a second run happens Wednesdays from October 7 to November 4 and November 18 to December 16. Both sessions run at 10:30 a.m. and feature stories, songs and rhymes for children two years and older along with a participating caregiver. Registration is preferred but not required.
Families looking for a hands-on activity can drop in for LEGO on the second Saturday of the month, with sessions on September 12, October 10, November 14 and December 12. The program is open to all ages and no registration is required.
Those same Saturdays will also feature a visit from St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dogs, Bright and Wally, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is open to all ages and registration is not required.
Family STEM Night continues monthly on September 15, October 13, November 10 and December 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a new hands-on science, technology, engineering and math activity featured each month.
Adults can get creative at Adult Craft Night, with a coaster-making session on Thursday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Halloween-themed craft on Tuesday, October 27, also at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions are for ages 16 and up and require registration.
Kids can explore art and nature at the Kids Apple Printing event on Saturday, September 26 from 11 a.m. to noon, using cut apples, paint and their imagination to create apple-print artwork.
Halloween festivities continue with Kids Slime on Saturday, October 31, offered in two half-hour sessions at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The program, which includes spiders, ghosts and glow-in-the-dark treats, is for ages five to 14 and requires registration.
The holiday season kicks off with the Frost Fest Downtown Holiday Market on Thursday, November 19 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring festive crafts, a chance to win a holiday LEGO set, and songs and stories with Mrs. Claus at 6 p.m., with a meet-and-greet continuing until 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, November 20, a PA Day Curling Storytime will be held at the Sydenham Community Curling Club at 7379 North River Line in Wallaceburg, starting at 2 p.m. The event includes stories and games followed by on-ice instruction. All ages are welcome, though children must be over five to participate on the ice, and on-ice participants require a signed waiver, helmet and clean indoor shoes. Space is limited, and those interested are asked to call 519-354-2940 to register.
A Teen and Adult Craft Night on Tuesday, November 24 at 6:30 p.m. will see participants transform an Altoids tin into a small decorated keepsake using paper, paint and embellishments. The event is for ages 12 and up and requires registration.
The library’s Knitting and Crochet Club also continues to meet every Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. for anyone interested in trading patterns, sharing tips or learning a new skill. Registration is not required.
