Charles Elmer Mills sr. of Windsor (formerly Chatham and Wallaceburg) passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, January 2, 2015 at the age of 93 years.
Charles was proud to have served 4 ½ years (July ‘41 to Dec. 1945) in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WW11.
Charles joined at almost twenty and was an Airframe Mechanic. He was stationed in Mont Joli, Quebec for almost three years working on the Ferry Battle Aircraft.
At the end of the war he was a Corporal stationed in Newfoundland (not yet a Canadian province), first at Tor Bay and then finished at Gander Bay working on the B24 Liberator Bomber.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife Donna Arnold Mills.
Loving father of Charles Mills jr, son Dudley Mills and daughter Julia and son-in-law Ed Bechard.
Charles is also survived by six grandchildren, Priscilla (Alyre) Ringuette and family, Julian Mills jr and family, Mandy (Dan) Pilon and family, Chad (Dani) Mills and family, Melissa (Darrell) Mills and family, Peter Mills along with 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Charles is also survived by four step-children, David (Nancy) Arnold, Tim (Gail) Arnold, Anne (Jose) Salvador, Gary Arnold and a step daughter-in-law, Darlene Arnold and their families.
Charles is also survived by 11 step grandchildren Matthew, Steven, Karen, Christine, Robert, Jenna, Allysa, Lindsey, Chris, Matthew and Carrie along with 4 step great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, Fred and Ethel Mills, wife, Elsie Mills, daughter, Priscilla May Mills, son Julian Anthony Mills sr, a step-son, Peter Levesque and step-son Bruce Arnold along with eight brothers and sisters.
Charles will also be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the nursing staff on the 8th floor of Windsor Regional Hospital and to Charles’ step-son-in-law, Jose Salvador who spent every night with our Dad in the hospital while he was passing.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Wednesday.
The funeral will be celebrated at the funeral home on Thursday, January 8 at 1:30 PM. Cremation with interment in Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
