Cruiser crashes while chasing suspect

An OPP officer was left with minor injuries after rolling his cruiser during a high speed chase.

On February 9, 2015, just after 9:00 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was traveling on Park Avenue, when he observed a vehicle approaching him at a high rate of speed and enter his lane of travel.

The officer followed the vehicle in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle turned westbound onto Pioneer Line and the officer followed. Moments later, the officer’s police vehicle left the roadway, rolled over several times and came to rest in a nearby field. The vehicle in question continued westbound on Pioneer Line.

The officer suffered minor injuries.

He was transported to hospital and released.

Chatham-Kent Police Service is conducting the investigation and would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision.
