During the week of April 13 – 17, the Racing Against Drugs program will be presented to grade five students from Chatham-Kent area.
Racing Against Drugs is a community-based drug and alcohol awareness program developed in partnership with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, local police services, local businesses, representatives of the School Boards and local health and drug education agencies.
The primary objective of this drug education initiative is to utilize the sport of auto racing to capture the attention of young people and communicate with them. Through an exciting and high profile sport, one with no-tolerance for substance abuse, students will learn about the pitfalls of drugs. Students will travel from Pit Stop to Pit Stop, where presenters discuss why tobacco, alcohol and drugs are bad ideas.
The event will be held at Erickson Arena – Delaware Ave, Chatham starting at 9:50 a.m. and wrapping up at 1:00 p.m. To conclude each day the final event will be a simulation race amongst the schools of the day vying for a trophy to take back to the school for their team accomplishments. The event is not open to public but media are invited to attend.
– On Monday, April 13th students will be present from Ridgetown, Merlin, and Chatham.
– On Tuesday, April 14th students will be present from Wallaceburg, Wheatley, Blenheim, Dresden, Bothwell and Chatham
– On Wednesday, April 15th students will be present from Tilbury, Blenheim, Paincourt, Grande Pointe and Chatham.
– On Thursday, April 16th students will be present from Wallaceburg, Tilbury, and Chatham.
– On Friday, April 17th students will be present from Wallaceburg, Tilbury, Blenheim, Thamesville, and Chatham.
