Wallaceburg Minor Midgets take Game 1

It was a packed house at the Walpole Island Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon, as the Wallaceburg Lakers Minor Midget squad opened up their OMHA championship series against Erin-Hillsburgh.

Wallaceburg came out on top in Game 1 with a 5-3 win.

Kyle Hooper scored a hat-trick leading the way for Wallaceburg. Austin Myers and Elijah Contreras also netted goals.

Brady Johnston was between the pipes for Wallaceburg, earning the win.

The Lakers will hit the road for Game 2 on Sunday.

Puck drops in Game 2 at 4:45 p.m. in Erin-Hillsburgh.

This is the first time since 2008 that a Wallaceburg club has competed in the OMHA finals.

Wallaceburg cruised to the championship after sweeping the Lincoln Blades in the semis.

Game 3 is scheduled to take place in Wallaceburg on Saturday, March 19.
