Another season is set to begin for Uncle Tom’s Cabin Historic site in Dresden.

Steven Cook, curator at Uncle Tom’s, said the site is ready to go.

“We already had a busy week leading up to our official opening on Saturday (May 17),” Cook said. “We had six buses this week… two from London, two from Chicago, one from Toronto and another from Dresden Area Central School.”

Cook said Uncle Tom’s will have their usual displays ready for viewing, they are working on an audio tour and a special exhibit will be displayed for a couple of months marking the anniversary of the First World War, specifically discussing the role played by the Black Batallion.

The annual Emancipation Day will also be held August 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin received a $10,000 donation from RBC yesterday (May 14), which will go towards the Emancipation Day festivities.

Cook said the annual contribution from RBC allows them to bring different and intriguing interpretive presenters in for the event.

Details are still being worked out for this year.
