A helicopter pilot, who allegedly knocked down some hydro wires in Dover this morning, has been located.

Police say around 9:00 a.m. this morning, a pilot was spraying a corn field on Mallard Line in Dover Township when the helicopter severed a hydro wire.

“The pilot landed the aircraft safely and flew away from the scene moments later,” police officials said. “A witness to the incident contacted police.”

Officers located the pilot, a 26-year-old Saskatchewan man, employed by Zimmer Air Services in Blenheim.

The pilot was not physically injured.

The helicopter, however sustained a cracked windshield.

The Ministry of Labour and Transport Canada have been contacted and the incident is under investigation.

Dover resident Kelly Atkins said she spotted the helicopter this morning.

“I heard the helicopter this morning… spraying,” Atkins said. “Then I was getting dressed and no hydro. I left about an hour later and I saw it still spraying a few fields over. Flying pretty low.”

Police officials say Mallard Line between Winterline Road and Big Pointe Road remains closed as Hydro One repairs the hydro line.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Constable Josh Flikweert at 519-436-6600 extension #87146.

Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
